It had been a decade since Suzanne Vega had last been in the Top 40 of her own accord. She had 3 Top 40 hits in 1986-87 but despite them being relatively well known she never got any higher than number 21.
It was also in 1987 when she did "Toms Diner" but failed to reach the Top 40 with it. She was however credited on the DNA remake of it in 1990 which reached number 2.
She had several singles that didn't make the Top 40 prior to this so the fact this did make the Top 40 would have probably been considered a success. It would be the last time we'd see her in the UK Top 40.
