UB40 had a total of 40 Top 40 hits which came over a 25 year period. This was number 38 and came 21 years after their Top 40 debut.
Both sides of this double a-side are covers, "Since I Met You Lady" was originally by Ivory Joe Hunter and "Sparkle Of My Eyes" was originally by Paragons. It wasn't from any of their "Labour of Love" albums though, it was from the album "Cover Up". The title may imply that it too was an album full of covers, but these were the only tracks that were covers.
Lady Saw is a Jamaican singer and collaborated with UB40 on "Since I Met You Lady". UB40 stuck to the same sort of formula throughout and that combined with the fact they never really fitted in with any music trends means a given UB40 record could be from any year. Given their longevity though it's fair to say they were past their commercial peak by this point.
