The Top 40 Leaderboard: 2020

What's this all about?

Here's the final leaderboard which is the same as last week. The winner is Drake followed by Justin Bieber which was quite predictable. I was expecting Ed Sheeran to come in 3rd place but he only managed 2 Top 40 hits this year meaning he doesn't make the leaderboard at all. It's perhaps no surprise to see D-Block Europe in joint 3rd place as they were joint 3rd last year. KSI on the other hand only had 2 Top 40 hits to his name prior to this year so is more surprising.

None of the new entries in the final week were rap bringing the total for the year to 117/236, or just under 50%. This is the first point in 2020 when less than half the Top 40 hits of the year were rap, but with just one rap hit in December it fell at the final hurdle.

The leaderboard will be back for 2021 but I think doing it every week is a bit too much so I'm going to make it a monthly feature instead.
