The Christmas number one of 1978 was perhaps the biggest Christmas hit pre-1985 not to feature on the Now Christmas Album which was "Mary's Boy Child" by Boney M. This had previously been a number 1 in 1957 for Harry Belafonte and that version didn't appear on the compilations either.
Also in the Christmas charts of 1978 were the Smurfs with "Christmas in Smurfland". The was the first Christmas effort for the cartoon group but it only made number 19. They had better success with "Your Christmas Wish" 18 years later.
Finally we had "Please Come Home For Christmas" by the Eagles which made number 30. The cover by Bon Jovi is probably a better known version which made the top ten in 1994.
