There's lots of different styles of music out there that has a sizeable following but doesn't have a huge impact on the UK Top 40. The style of music in the case of this record is "Folktronica" which is a combination of folk and electronica.
Beth Orton was the one time girlfriend of William Orbit who had already established himself as a musician. They wrote this record together and it appeared on the debut Beth Orton album "Superpinkymandy" in 1993.
A new version was made for her 2nd album "Trailer Park" which came out in 1996. This single was first released in 1996 but failed to reach the Top 40. After 2 further singles from her "Trailer Park" album also failed to reach the Top 40, this was rereleased and she finally made the Top 40.
She had 4 Top 40 hits in total but the highest she charted was number 34 with "Stolen Car" in 1999.
