UK Number 40s: Roy Buchanan - Sweet Dreams (1973)

This was the only UK Top 40 hit for Roy Buchanan. It was an instrumental cover of a non-instrumental record.

It was written and originally recorded by country singer Don Gibson. Several other country musicians covered the song, but this blues instrumental cover was the only version to make the UK Top 40.

Roy Buchanan was allegedly invited to join the Rolling Stones in the early 70s but he turned it down, opting to pursue his own solo career instead. Several albums followed into the 80s.

Outside of music he struggled with alcoholism and was arrested in 1988 for public intoxication. He was later found dead in his jail cell.
