UK Number 40s: Three Degrees - Long Lost Lover (1975)

Once again we have a number 40 by an act that also had a UK number one. It came just under a year after their number one single "When Will I See You Again" which had been their 2nd Top 40 hit. Their debut "Year Of Decision" came earlier in 1974.

This was the 5th of 10 Top 40 hits for the group and came after what could be described as the first era of Three Degrees hits. They were one of several Philadelphia soul groups and they were signed to Philadelphia International Records. All of their first 5 hits were written by label founders Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff.

Following this record they would leave the record label and would have no further hits penned by Gamble & Huff. Another minor hit would come in 1976 with "Toast Of Love" which was co-written by band member Sheila Ferguson.

They wouldn't return to the charts until 1978, by which point they had become a triggers broom band, with last remaining original member Fayette Pinkney leaving in 1976.

Their final Top 40 hit came at the end of 1979 with "My Simple Heart". Sheila Ferguson, perhaps the best known member, left the group in 1986. But since then Helen Scott and Valerie Holiday have remained with the group with the 3rd member changing several times over the years.
