UK Number 40s: Fatback Band Yum Yum (Gimme Some) (1975)

This was the debut Top 40 hit for Fatback Band, the first of 6. Although the band revolved around drummer Bill "Fatback" Curtis, songwriting duties were shared amongst band members. This one was written by guitarist Johnny King.

All bar one of their Top 40 hits came during an 18 month period in the mid-70s. They were all funk records, the biggest of these begin "(Do The) Spanish Hustle" which made number 10 in 1976.

In 1979 they recorded "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" which is credited as being the first recorded hip hop song, though it never made the UK charts and is often overlooked by "Rappers Delight".

Their biggest hit though was their final Top 40 hit to date in 1987 with "I Found Lovin". It had failed to reach the Top 40 when first released in 1984, but it was given a new lease of life in 1987 following a cover by radio DJ Steve Walsh. His version made number 10, but at the same time the original Fatback Band version made number 7.
