Around this time there appeared to be a number of bands who bucked the trend of debuting with their biggest hit and gradually declining thereafter. Instead they were initially charting in the lower reaches of the Top 40 before having their big breakthrough hit a bit later.
Catatonia were one of those bands. They formed in 1992 and had their first Top 40 hit in 1996 with "You've Got A Lot To Answer For". Just over a year later they had their 2nd Top 40 hit with this record.
The lack of radio play was said to be a factor in this record not being more successful. The lyrics were considered to not be so radio friendly. It was however the lead single from their chart topping "International Velvet" album.
Their singles career would also see a turn in fortune follow this as their next single would be "Mulder & Scully" which established them as a chart act.
They broke up in 2001 and haven't reunited at all since. Ironically given this record got little radio play, Cerys Matthews has since become better known as a radio DJ.
