Mazzy Star were a band who initially existed from 1988 - 1997, so this was very much in the latter stages of their career. It was however their only UK Top 40 hit to date.
Their best known song was "Fade Into You" which failed to reach the UK Top 40 but gave them their only Billboard 100 hit. It was from the album "So Tonight That I Might See" which was their biggest album which went gold in the UK.
Therefore by 1996 they would have presumably had a big enough following to finally get them a Top 40 hit. The album "Among My Swan" on which this appears didn't get released until a couple of weeks later which would have helped get this into the Top 40.
