Simply Red were one of those groups who were successful despite not fitting into any sort of scene. As a result they could succeed in any time period.
They made their Top 40 debut back in 1985 with "Money's Too Tight To Mention" and enjoyed success for the rest of the decade. Then in 1991 came the album "Stars" which was so successful it was the biggest selling album of both 1991 and 1992. The singles didn't do as well as you might expect, presumably because everyone already had the album.
Then in 1995 came their only chart topper to date "Fairground". They enjoyed more success throughout the rest of the 90s but by the year 2000 they were dropped from their record label. Given their status though, it allowed Mick Hucknall to set up his own "simplyred.com" label.
On this new label came the album "Home" and the lead single "Sunrise" put them back on the music map again making the Top 10. A cover of "You Make Me Feel Brand New" also made the Top 10.
This was the last single to be released from said album and was Top 40 hit number 29 for them. They had a further 3 Top 40 hits but were all in the lower reaches.
