UK Number 40s: Shystie - One Wish (2004)

In 2003 we had a new music channel called Channel U. It was a channel that played urban music as a rule and featured a chunk of music from the British grime scene. Grime was Britain's answer to American rap music and had evolved from the UK garage scene.

At the same time we started to see grime music in the Top 40 for the first time courtesy of Dizzee Rascal. It wouldn't be long before other grime artists would follow suit, with Shystie being one of them.

It would be the only Top 40 hit for Shystie, but the fact only a handful of grime acts were making the Top 40 back then this would have been seen as a success. The following year she would turn to acting with a role in "Dubplate Drama" which was a music related TV show.
