UK Number 40s: Motiv 8 And Kym Mazelle - Searching For The Golden Eye (1995)

In 1994 there was a countless number of Eurodance records entering the UK Top 40. One such record was "Rockin For Myself" by Motiv-8 which made number 18. Around 18 months later came follow up hit "Break The Chain" which made 31. Then at the end of 1995 came this which is the final Motiv-8 Top 40 hit to date.

Motiv-8 is the alias of Steve Rodway. Back in the mid-80s before he was known as Motiv-8 he had two Top 40 hits as songwriter on both Russ Abbot hits. He was also the drummer for Billy Ocean.

Following this single he had his greatest success as a songwriter with "Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit" by Gina G which topped the charts in 1996. He was also responsible for the remix of "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls.

Kym Mazelle was already an established dance music vocalist and had her greatest chart success in 1989 with "Wait" which was a duet with Dr Robert from the Blow Monkeys. This was her penultimate Top 40 hit to date.

On songwriting duties alongside Steve Rodway on both this and "Break The Chain" was Brian Higgins. These were his first Top 40 hits as songwriter, but he would go on to become a prolific songwriter. Most notably he was songwriter on every Girls Aloud hit which wasn't a cover.
