Going by the British Hit Singles definitions, we have another first with this Number 40. This is the first act to reach 40 with their debut hit and then go on to have other hits.
That debutant is Inez Foxx, a soul singer from America. In 1964 there were several soul acts from America making their debuts in the UK Top 40 such as Dionne Warwick, Mary Wells and The Supremes.
This song was written by Charlie Foxx, the brother of Inez Foxx. He also sang on the record too, but the official artist is just Inez Foxx. This is why I said going by the British Hit Singles definitions, because they would have one more Top 40 hit in 1969 with "Mockingbird" but this time it would be as Inez and Charlie Foxx, but British Hit Singles defines them as being the same act.
