Bran Van 3000 were best known for "Drinking In LA" which initially charted in 1998 and then got bigger in 1999 after featuring on the Rolling Rock advert.
It was the same year that Bran Van 3000 member James Di Salvio approached Curtis Mayfield to collaborate with them. He was too ill to collaborate and died later on in the year, but gave them permission to use his music. A sample of some unreleased material from Curtis Mayfield was used for the record.
By the time it was released it had been 2 years since the huge success of "Drinking In LA" and by this point they had pigeonholed themselves with the one record they're famous for.
