Grunge hit the big time in the early 90s, but started to decline in popularity following the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994. Then in 1997 it made a bit of a comeback most notably with "Swallowed" by Bush.
Lesser known but still contributing to this mini revival were Australian band Silverchair. They made their Top 40 debut earlier on in 1997 at the age of just 17 with "Freak" which made number 34. This was followed up by "Abuse Me" which would be their final Top 40 hit to date.
They fared a lot better in their native Australia, topping the charts there in 1994 with their debut single "Tomorrow". They also topped the charts with "Freak" whilst this record got to number 9.
Like Bush, their lead singer had a musician wife with Daniel Johns being married to Natalie Imbruglia from 2003 - 2008.
They carried on as a band until 2011.
