Lulu was one of the biggest female solo artists of the 60s and that's when 10 of her 18 Top 40 hits came. It started with "Shout" in 1964 and ended with "Boom Bang-A-Bang" in 1969 which are her 2 best known hits.
Then came the 70s which was a time many 60s acts found themselves out of favour. She did have a brief revival in the mid-70s with the number 3 single "The Man Who Sold the World" and "Take Your Mama For A Ride" which scraped into the Top 40 to reach 37.
Aside from "Shout" having a second outing in the Top 40 in the 80s, Lulu wouldn't return to the Top 40 again until 1993. She released "Independence" at the start of the year which came from the album of the same name and made number 11. Then came a collaboration with Bobby Womack on "I'm Back For More".
She enjoyed her greatest chart success later on in 1993 though alongside Take That on the chart topper "Relight My Fire" which is her only number one to day, some 29 years after her Top 40 debut.
Like in the 70s though, her 90s revival was brief with this record coming next which only made number 40. It was also the first Lulu Top 40 hit to be written by Lulu herself.
It sounds very much like a 90s dance pop record and that was likely the problem. It's unlikely to be the sort of music her fans from the 60s would like. At the same time she didn't have the likes of Take That alongside her to appeal to the kids.
She wasn't finished with the Top 40 yet though. Next came "Where the Poor Boys Dance" in 2000 and then her final hit to date came in 2002 with "We've Got Tonight" alongside Ronan Keating.
