UK Charts Best Year Search: 2012

What's this all about?

Top 40

Best Song: Rudimental ft John Newman - Feel The Love

I saw Rudimental in concert at the end of 2012 when they were supporting The Prodigy. I'd never heard of them at the time. I thought they were a bit rubbish. They're a drum & bass act but to me it's just pop music with a drum & bass beat. Why is this the best song then? Well, in this Top 40 all records get a zero from me and this is the best of a bad bunch that's helped by having a drum & bass beat.

Worst Song: Coldplay & Rihanna - Princess Of China

A collaboration between Coldplay & Rihanna was always going to be shit but it's also an illustration of  how bad commercial music had become. It seems purely an attempt from Coldplay to sell to Rihanna fans and vice versa. I can't see any other reason why a band would have Rihanna on one of their records.

Top 40 Review

I've already said that the score will be zero. But why was this Top 40 so bad?

It's pretty similar to the 2011 Top 40, full of electropop and EDM music. Once again I was losing the will to live by hearing what seemed to be the same record over and over again.

The difference this time is no old records re-entering the Top 40. The only rap records this time came from Jay-Z & Kanye West and were crap.

The chart basically follows that Christmas Top of the Pops formula of David Guetta clone followed by Ed Sheeran clone and repeat. Incidentally both David Guetta and Ed Sheeran are in this Top 40.

That's all there is to say really.

Score: 0

Table

2012 is guaranteed bottom place, the question is whether any other years will join it:
