Sad Cafe are one of those groups who were going for quite a while but had a very brief run in the UK Top 40. They formed in 1976 and broke up in 1990 but their Top 40 career lasted a little over a year.
Their debut hit "Every Day Hurts" was their biggest reaching number 3 in 1979. Follow up "Strange Little Girl" charted at the start of 1980 but only made number 32. Then came "My Oh My" in March which reached number 14. These 3 singles came from their "Facades" album and there was also a 4th single "Nothing Left Toulouse" which failed to make the Top 40.
The lead single from their follow up self titled album "La-Di-Da" also failed to make the Top 40, but only just as it made number 41. Then came this which did one place better at number 40.
A success based on the prior 2 singles and indeed the bulk of the singles they released over the years that never made the charts.
Lead singer Paul Young would be back in the charts though as singer with Mike & the Mechanics. He's not the same Paul Young who had several solo hits in the 80s and 90s.
