The Rockin Berries were a band from Birmingham who debuted in 1964 at the height of the popularity of beat music. Dubbed as "Brum Beat" music, they were the 2nd said band to have a Top 10 hit after the Applejacks earlier on in 1964. The hit in question was "He's In Town" which was a cover of a song by The Tokens and written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King.
Less than a year later, after two further hits which made 23 and 5 respectively, they returned to the formula that gave them their big debut hit which was a cover of a song by The Tokens written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. The result was this record.
Whilst it only made Number 40 in the UK Charts, The Tokens didn't even make the Billboard 100 in America with this song.
It would be the final Top 40 for the Rockin Berries. Something I found out quite recently though was that singer Geoff Turton would return to the charts in 1969 with the song "Colour Of My Love" under the name Jefferson.
