Now we're a quarter of the way through the year and the list was getting quite long, I thought now would be a good time to only include those who have had 2 or more Top 40 hits so far this year. Joining that club this week is Weeknd with his 2nd hit of the year.
As there is likely to be weeks where the leaderboard won't change, I've decided to add something else to these posts. In recent times there has been a lot of rap music in the charts, so much so that I don't think any other genre has had such a presence in the Top 40 throughout it's history. To give you an idea, at the end of January we'd had 23 Top 40 hits, 16 of them were rap.
What I thought would be a good idea then is to do a rap count to see if it continues it's dominance throughout the year. As of this week, 39/67 Top 40 hits have been rap, that's 58%. Not as dominant as January, but we've still had more rap hits than non-rap hits.
