Original Record of the Year: Chicane - Poppiholla
In 2009 I gave one last shot at getting into modern music because it seemed now or never as I was approaching the end of my 20s.
From a Top 40 perspective I discovered a website called Chartstats which had an archive of the charts every week since they began. This allowed me to listen to every Top 40 hit from 2009 towards the end of the year, so I gave each Top 40 hit I didn't know a listen on YouTube to see if I could find anything good.
There wasn't much and a lot of the music I did like came from acts who were around in the 20th century. My pick for the record of the year came from one of those acts, Chicane.
Other acts included Eminem, The Prodigy and the Pet Shop Boys. Can any of them take the crown from Chicane or could an actual 21st century act do it?
No they can't. As much as I do like the records from those acts mentioned they were as good as their older tunes but with Chicane I think "Poppiholla" is just as good as his 90s output.
