UK Number 40s: Lithium & Sonya Madan - Ride A Rocket (1997)

 

There were a few progressive house number 40s earlier on in the 90s and here's another one. Like with a lot of dance records this was doing the rounds in the DJ sets for some time before it finally hit the Top 40.

1996 goes down in history as the year of progressive house and this was one of those records. Lithium was an alias of Victor Imbres. He had other Top 40 hits under different aliases including Submerge just a few weeks prior to this. It was his only record under this alias.

Sonya Madan was the lead singer of Britpop band Echobelly. It was perhaps an unlikely collaboration considering the different styles of music each would normally do. It also seemed unlikely given Victor Imbres is American and Britpop was largely unknown over there.
