Many people will be familiar with the progressive rock genre. Much of it was music made to listen to on an album rather than music for the singles chart. Some will be familiar with progressive house, a genre that isn't well defined but one that perhaps isn't chart friendly. A more obscure genre that few will have heard of is progressive metal.
That is the genre of this record. Progressive metal bands we've had in the Top 40 include Queensryche and...well that's it. You could therefore say that Queensryche are the most successful progressive metal band ever from a chart perspective.
Their Top 40 debut came in 1991 with "Silent Lucidity" which made number 34. The only time they charted higher than this was in 1992 when a re-issue of "Silent Lucidity" made number 18. Their 2nd Top 40 hit "Best I Can" made 36 and then "Jet City Women" made number 39. These were all in 1991.
"I Am I" was their 4th Top 40 hit and was the lead single from their "Promised Land" album. One more single followed which was also a number 40, but more on that when the time comes.
