UK Number 40s: David Bowie - Miracle Goodnight (1993)

This is the 47th time so far we've featured an act to have both a number 1 and number 40 to their name. It also happened to be David Bowies 47th Top 40 hit.

At this point in time only Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard had more Top 40 hits to their name. Perhaps in part to do with the quantity of singles he had, his Top 40 career was a bit of a mixed bag even in the 70s when he topped the charts with "Space Oddity" but only got to number 24 with "Heroes" for example.

By the late 80s his Top 40 career was in decline but after 6 years away from the Top 40 he scored a Top 10 with the single "Jump They Say" which was taken from the "Black Tie White Noise" album. The title track was next which made number 36 and then came this, the 3rd and final single from the album.

Nile Rodgers was the producer on all 3 of these singles. It had been 10 years since he had been producer on his "Let's Dance" album.

David Bowie would have a handful of Top 40 hits in the decade which followed but none made the Top 10. He did however have his final Top 10 hit in 2013 with "Where Are We Now" which had been his first Top 40 hit in 11 years and he's not been back in the Top 40 with any original songs since at the time of writing.
