Detroit Spinners formed in 1954 but they would have to wait until 1970 until they had their first UK Top 40 hit with "It's A Shame". A further 6 Top 40 hits followed in the 70s, but only their 3rd hit "Ghetto Child" made the Top 10.
In 1980 they were back after 3 years away with a number one hit "Working My Way Back To You - Forgive Me Girl". They knocked The Jam off the top, who's members weren't even born when the Detroit Spinners formed.
Just over a month later came this, the follow up. It came from the album "Dancin' and Lovin'" which was the same album their chart topper was on. It was produced by Michael Zager and there were elements of his record "Let's All Chant" in this.
This wasn't the end of their Top 40 career though. Just over a month later they were back in the Top 40 with "Cupid - I've Loved You For A Long Time" which would reach number 4 giving them their 2nd biggest hit.
The main difference between this record and the other 2 more successful records of 1980 was this is not a cover but the other 2 were so many the record buying public only wanted to hear covers from them.
They had one final appearance in the Top 40 after 1980 when they were credited on a cover of one of their own records, "I'll Be Around" by Rappin 4 Tay.
