UK Number 40s: Real Thing - Rainin' Through My Sunshine (1978)

We have yet another act who has both a number 1 and a number 40 to their name. The Real Thing topped the charts with their debut "You To Me Are Everything" in 1976. They followed this up with the number 2 hit "Can't Get By Without You".

Both these songs were written by Ken Gold and Michael Denne, but then Chris Amoo and Eddie Amoo, the brothers in the group wrote the following 2 hits. The latter of these, "Love's Such A Wonderful Thing", only made number 33 and the album "4 From 8" which it came from was a flop at the time.

In 1978 Ken Gold and Michael Denne returned to songwriting duties with "Whenever You Want My Love" which got them back into the Top 20. Then came "Let's Go Disco" which was written by Biddu that only made 39, a record the band themselves hated. Then came this record, which was written by Chris Amoo and Eddie Amoo, as were the remainder of their Top 40 hits.

Their heyday wasn't quite over yet though. Their next hit was "Can You Feel the Force?" which reached number 5. It would be their penultimate original Top 40 hit, their final being "Boogie Down (Get Funky Now)".

They enjoyed a revival in 1986 with their 3 biggest hits charting as remixes and they were also credited on "So Much Love To Give" by the Freeloaders which sampled "Love's Such A Wonderful Thing" and charted in 2005.

They've continued as a group throughout the years having never split up, though only 2 of the 4 members are still alive.
