UK Number 40s: Bloodstone - Natural High (1973)

This record was the only UK Top 40 hit for American soul group Bloodstone. It was also their debut hit in their native America and made the Top 10 there.

The group had already been going for over a decade by this point and were on their 2nd album. Just over a month prior to this hitting the UK Top 40, band member Roger Durham died aged 27 after falling off a horse.

All members of the band wrote songs from their 2nd album, also called "Natural High" and this particular one was written by bass player Charles McCormick, who is still performing with the band today. The only other member from this era still with the band is Harry Williams, the remaining members Willis Draffen and Charles Love stayed with the band until their deaths in 2002 and 2014 respectively.

This song was given a new lease of life in 1997 when it appeared in the film "Jackie Brown".
